The market for ILM qualifications is very lively: unfunded places on open courses generally cost around £1,295 for ILM Level 2 and £1,995 for ILM Level 3. Major employers are prepared to pay for these qualifications because they deliver such great skills and confidence.
This project brings these highly valued learning programmes to companies and individuals who may not otherwise have access to them. We are able to offer these courses free of charge thanks to the support of the LDA: The Mayor’s Agency for Business and Jobs.
Funding is available only for women who meet the project’s stringent eligibility criteria:
You must be employed by an organisation of fewer than 250 employees
You must live and/or work within one of the following London boroughs: Barnet, Brent, Camden, Croydon, Ealing, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Harrow, Islington, Lambeth, Lewisham, Redbridge, Richmond, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, and Westminster. Exceptionally, we may accept a few candidates from other London boroughs. All candidates must live and/or work in London.
What’s the difference between the 4-day course and the 6-day course?
The Award in Team Leading (4 days) is an excellent opportunity for new and aspiring team leaders to learn the most important skills they need to lead a team successfully. You do not need any particular knowledge or experience of management; the course covers the basics in a lively and accessible way.
The Award in First Line Management (6 days) is ideal for the owner-manager or senior staff of an SME. It deals with the people-management skills managers need most plus you get a substantial, practical education in the skills and techniques of problem-solving at work.
As part of the course, you will solve an important, current problem affecting the income, cost profile or profitability of the business. For example, past candidates have:
Increased their profitability by understanding when and how to cross-sell services
Saved costs by changing the way existing staff work
Reduced conflict and stress by redesigning their office layout
Put together a winning proposal to buy a complementary business
Yes. The ILM Level 2 Award in Team Leading is assessed through “reflective reviews” – a series of short-answer questions you will complete as we work through the course.
The ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management is assessed in two ways. Firstly, segment reviews involve very brief case studies that we use to consolidate your learning. This takes about an hour to complete, usually on the last day of the course.
Secondly, the work-based assignment gives you the opportunity to practise problem-solving using a genuine current problem in your workplace. On average, a work-based assignment is 4-6 pages long and takes about 10 hours to research and write up.
We know this process can seem a little daunting at first – especially if you have been out of education for some time – so we have set aside plenty of time to help everyone to be successful with this project. From the point of view of the business, this is usually the most valuable part of the course!
Won’t the ILM Level 3 be too difficult for someone without a Level 2 qualification?
No. Our courses are designed to build on what you already know. They take you step-by-step through the course material, focusing on the practicalities of leadership and management.
These are accredited courses leading to a recognised qualification, so you must attend every session. If you need to be absent – due to illness or bereavement, for example – we will do everything we can to help you catch up what you have missed. This may mean joining a subsequent course for a day or two, or even doing some of the segments by distance learning.
Our courses are held at the NCVO conference suite, overlooking Regent’s Canal, a few minutes’ walk from King’s Cross Station. The training rooms are light and airy and the atmosphere is tranquil. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be offered in the training room throughout the day.
